Two months after President Donald Trump lost the election to President-elect Joe Biden, thousands of right wing extremists flooded Washington D.C. under the claim that Democrats stole the election through a rigged voting system. This claim was repeated and pushed relentlessly by Trump, who urged his supporters to take action on the day Vice President Mike Pence and Congress were supposed to count electoral votes. While right wing protests popped up at State Capitols across the country, rioters took to the United States Capitol Building, and in an effort to subvert the electoral process and defy democracy, they raided the Capitol in a violent insurrection.
